Olivo A Mariner Again?

Troy Renck, the Colorado Rockies beat writer for the Denver Post, tweets that former Rockies catcher Miguel Olivo will sign a two-year, $7.5 million contract and that his most likely destination is Seattle.

The Rockies seem to be on track to keep most of their catching bets on Chris Iannetta next year.

Olivo, who has been with the Mariners in the past, batted .269/.315/.449 with 14 homers and 58 RBIs in 112 games last season with Colorado.

If the Renck tweet is accurate, it seems like a great deal for Miguel and an expensive commitment for a team that was thought to be looking for a one-year deal for a veteran to back up Adam Moore. Moore is among the several young Mariners expected to see a lot of playing time in 2011.

But that's still an if. Several outlets reported that the Mariners are having ongoing talks with Olivo, but that nothing is official. Olivo was with the Mariners for the end of the 2004 season and the start of the 2005 season, never hitting better than .200.

In nine major league seasons, he is batting .246/.283/.427 with 110 home runs and 388 RBIs.
